What is the Youth Ballet Program? How do I know if it is right for my dancer? 

The Youth Ballet Program is an audition-based program for dancers aged 8 and up. The program provides advanced training in ballet, modern, and pointe and provides dancers with additional performance opportunities. The program is perfect for dancers wanting to advance their technique and showcase their love of dance. What is the Competition Program? How do I know if it is right for my dancer? 

The Competition Program is an audition-based program for dancers aged 6 and up. Dancers train in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, musical theater, and numerous other styles and compete at 3-4 regional competitions each spring. The program is perfect for dancers who are passionate about growing their skills and want to be part of a supportive team. What does my dancer need to wear for class? Where can I get the supplies, they need? 

For dance shoes NDBC partners with a dance shoe company to provide our dancers with affordable and high-quality footwear. Dancers can set up a time with our office staff to get fitted for shoes which are then shipped directly to the studio. Staff then ensure that the shoes fit before sending them home and exchange any shoes that do not fit. NDBC also has a selection of leotards and tights available for purchase in our boutique in our lobby. Families are also welcome to order their own dance attire and shoes at online retailers.

Can my dancer do more than ballet? 

Absolutely! NDBC offers dance classes in a wide range of styles including jazz, modern, contemporary, pointe, tap, hip hop, and more! There is something for everyone.

What class is best for my dancer?

Are there any performance opportunities? 

Yes! All dancers part of our regular 2026 – 2027 season classes will perform in our end of year recital in May. Additional performance opportunities are available to dancers that are part of our Youth Ballet or Competition Programs. Can parents watch dance classes? 

Yes! There are viewing windows in our lobby for both of our studios for parents, family, friends, or guardians to watch the dance class if they would like to stay.

How do I make payments? 

Monthly tuition is paid through ACH automatic withdrawal each month of the season from September - May. Families can choose to use a bank account or credit card, but there is a discount for families using a bank account for monthly tuition. What are the additional costs throughout the season? 

In addition to monthly tuition, there is also a registration fee, costume fees for our end of year recital, and a recital fee. The recital fee is in lieu of ticket fees for our end of year recital and allows families to bring as many members to the performance as they would like. Is the studio closed at the same time as the schools? Is there a calendar of all important dates for the season?

NDBC has dancers from many of the surrounding communities, each with their own school district calendars, so we do not follow the Grand Forks Public Schools calendar. A copy of our full season calendar is located in our parent portal and your student handbook.

Does my child need experience to join?

NDBC accepts students of all ability levels, so no experience is needed. If you aren’t sure which class is best for your dancer you can fill out our Class Finder here, or email us at info@northdakotaballet.org and we would be happy to find the best class for you.

If I have questions how is the best way to get them answered? 

The best way to get your question answered is to email us at info@northdakotaballet.org. This email is a one-stop shop for all of your questions, no matter what they are. We check messages daily and will forward your message along to the correct person who will be able to promptly answer your question.

How many kids are in each class? 

Class size varies by age and level. For our children’s classes (ages 3-10) classes are typically 12 - 15 dancers or less and each class has an instructor and assistant. For our Academy level classes (ages 10 and up) class sizes range from 6-15 dancers.

What can I expect from my first dance class for my little one? 

Firstly, welcome! We are so glad you are joining us for classes. That first dance class is a fun and exciting time for both the dancers and the instructors. On your first day of class, we recommend coming about 10 minutes early to give your dancer time to get their shoes on and get ready for the class. The instructor will call all dancers into the studio at the start of class together. During class instructors will introduce dancers to beginner dance steps and terminology using engaging music, activities, and props, before concluding class with an exciting game or activity that is sure to leave your dancer smiling!
